Evil Dead Rise, a new movie produced by Raimi and Campbell, recently wrapped filming, and Evil Dead: The Game, a new video game, is slated for release next year. The 2013 Evil Dead film currently sits as a standalone film, though the franchise is still active. Raimi also hasn't shied away from endings that see characters meet a terrifying demise, like the notorious finale of Drag Me To Hell. While he seemingly wasn't wrong, it comes as quite the statement given that Raimi had a similar fate planned for Ash in the original. Raimi reasons that after Mia survived the demonic forces and her heroin withdrawals, it would be unfair to the audience to kill her.

While that visceral ending could have worked, it seems that Raimi talked Alvarez out of it.

She was going to explode into this bomb of blood.“ “Suddenly her body was all tensed up like Exorcist-style, and then we were going to rip her apart like every limb or something like that. It was kind of the rules of Evil Dead, to never see anything that tells you right away that you’re in a supernatural world. It was written as she levitates for the first time – because you never see levitation in the movie. So we will do this shot, and after she turns and screams, we will see what happened to her. “In the script, we went a little bit further and we say, well, that’s what we saw in the original movie, so I think we should see more this time. was going to walk out of the house, she’s limping away from the house and suddenly the force – you know, the crazy camera running through the woods – would come out of the house, she would turn around, scream, and that would be it, that would be the end of it.” The original ending – we shot some of it – ended like the original movie. The ending would've continued to show Mia floating up into the air, where, in Alvarez's words, "She was going to explode into this bomb of blood." Check out Alvarez's comments below: The finale would've seen Mia, much like the original's Ash, attacked by a force from the woods, with Alvarez's version taking it even further. While speaking on Bloody Disgusting's Boo Crew podcast, Alvarez discussed the ending initially written for Mia. The final moments of Evil Dead feature blood raining down from the sky, covering Mia as she makes her last stand, which she survives. As the demons attack, the friends begin to die off in horrific ways, with protagonist Mia, an addict trying to kick her habit, surviving to the bloody finale. The film starred Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci, and Elizabeth Blackmore.Įvil Dead follows a plot similar to the original film that sees five friends heading out to a remote cabin in the woods where they find the Book of the Dead, which they unwittingly read from, releasing demons. Raimi served as a producer on the reboot, alongside the original film's star Bruce Campbell, directing duties were given to relative newcomer Fede Alvarez, who would direct 2016's Don't Breathe. The 2013 Evil Dead was a remake of director Sam Raimi's 1981 classic The Evil Dead. The 2013 reboot of Evil Dead cut an ending that featured the main character suffering a bloody explosion.
